Many people believe that we live in the best country in the world, but behind the facade, Norwegians are in decline. We struggle with many challenges that affect our quality of life. It has been 50 years since we last had a population surplus from our own births. To maintain the population, we need an average of over 2.1 children per woman, but 1974 was the last year in which Norwegian women gave birth to more than this. Norway is now among the lowest in Europe after 12 years of continuous decline, representing the fastest fall in Europe.
Divorce rates have tripled, and the marriage rate has halved. Today, 40% of boys are growing up without a father, which has negative consequences in many areas, including increased crime and substance abuse. Inflation, currency depreciation, interest rate cycles and high house prices have reduced purchasing power to a historically low level. The situation is not as positive as many believe.
