In today's society, we are taught that marriage, whether it is between a man and a woman, two women, two men, or multiple partners, is equally recognized. The gender of those getting married is irrelevant, and this is also reflected in school textbooks for children.
However, statistics from Statistics Norway (SSB) and fact checks from Faktisk.no show that the risk of divorce is higher among homosexual couples compared to heterosexual couples.
Biological and social factors may play a role in these dynamics. For example, women may be more likely to seek change in dysfunctional relationships, which may explain the higher divorce rate among lesbian couples. It is also worth noting that in heterosexual relationships, the woman initiates divorce in over 70 percent of cases, and this tendency appears to carry over into lesbian relationships. This may contribute to these relationships being the least stable for children to grow up in.
Home stability is an important factor in children's well-being and development. Studies have shown that children who grow up in stable homes have better outcomes in terms of academic achievement, mental health, and social skills.
