Five tips for critical public commentary

1. Pride is a political arena for adults who fight for legal changes and political decisions. Pride is explicitly defined as political by the pride organizers.

Rhetorical question: Should children be the target audience for political arenas for adults?

Sources: The leader of Oslo Pride says “It is now very clear to the Norwegian population that pride is political” https://www.nrk.no/nyheter/_-pride-er-politisk_-ogsa-i-2022-1.16018065

“Pride is both a party and politics,” says the Free Association FRI itself(see section 2 from the top). https://foreningenfri.no/pride-for-all/

2. The Pride flag represents a political symbol-therefor the Norwegian Parliament will not use the Pride flag.

Rhetorical question: Is it natural, by extension, for schools and kindergartens to raise Pride flags?

Source: The head of the secretariat says the Parliament does not flag for political celebrations. https://subjekt.no/2024/05/23/stortinget-vil-ikke-heise-pride-flag/

3. Celebrating pride is inextricably linked to a political interest organization called the Association FRI. They are, among other things, the main shareholder in Oslo Pride AS. FRI arranges and coordinates pride events and slogans all over the country. Therefore, the pride flag is closely linked to FRI, which itself has pride colors in its logo all year round.

Rhetorical question: Why can't one criticize the pride flag if it is seen as part of the brand belonging to a political interest organization that has its own political ambitions?

Source: Fri has a pride committee that run courses and training for pride organizers. https://www.foreningenfri.no/wp-content/uploads/Revidert-mandat-pride-selection-2023-1.pdf

4. One of FRI's most important tasks is to influence society by organizing pride events.

Rhetorical question: Since pride is used as a tool in political influence work, doesn't that mean that pride can be criticized, because all politics must withstand criticism?

5. FRI has a radical political agenda that it actively promotes to gain political traction. FRI will, among other things, advocate for altruistic surrogacy and defend medical treatment of children and young people who believe they were born in the wrong body – even though this is not scientifically based. FRI will support sex purchases and pimping and promote the introduction of a third legal gender, to name a few. This is a policy that is legitimized through Pride, because symbolism, color usage, and slogans are connected.

Rhetorical question: Are people's different understandings of politics unifying or divisive?
